Episode 1: Chris Claremont’s Run On Uncanny X-Men

Here it is folks! The exciting Episode 1 where we discuss all things Chris Claremont’s run on the Uncanny X-Men! That’s right, there’s geekery galore as Christopher and Dom run amok on your favorite mutants and their most profound creator/writer (and discuss other properties his run influenced and why we think the X-films mostly suck.)

And another round of apologies for the sound. We are figuring it out, and getting better all the time… just not this time. We are on separate continents (excuses, excuses… I know). Almost there however.

Next up some definitions to help you figure out what the hell this podcast is all about (however, I recommend you give a listen to our Episode 0 for a deeper understanding: https://elevatingthegenre.wordpress.com/2016/09/16/episode-0/):

Third up some definitions to help out:
Morrison’s original definition of “Elevated Genre”:
Genre films that tackle “hi-concept” sci-fi concepts on a limited budget focusing on character and “reality” with the concept relegated to the background of the movie. As opposed to a big budget blockbuster where the concept becomes the driving force of the film.

Elevating the Genre Podcast working definition:
Any element in any “genre” (re: geek) piece of IP/story that raises that piece (or a moment or element in the piece) above the normal expectations of that genre.

Fourth up we do record a visual version of the podcast as well. You can find that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFmUYXkMjcg

Episode 0

Welcome everyone! This is Episode 0. You can start here or return here to find out what Dom and I were REALLY thinking when we started this goofy thang!

First up APOLOGIES for sound. It’s weird as all get out as this was our first attempt. And mostly, apologies to Mr. Mah himself as it’s his audio in particular that suffers. We’re working on it.

Second up APOLOGIES for Mr. Mah being half on screen ALSO due to the fact we’ve never done this. But his shiny presence shines on through for sure. (I’m seriously not trying to make Dom look and sound bad, it just happened.)

SUGGESTION BOX

That’s right. We’re strange and weird and stuff. Our first post is our suggestion box. Listen to Ep. 0 for the birth of the box. We’re taking suggestions on what you’d like us to cover/talk-your-head-off-about. Remember we are NOT: a review site; a film podcast; we only unbox ideas; have pictures of animals (at least not yet).
We ARE: interested in discussing all things smart, original genre. Some of those things MIGHT be:
powers; magic systems; score; fights; set-pieces; plot structures; character beats; creators; etc.

In other words we break down things that elevate genre works beyond what they are stereotypically considered to “be”. Smart, engaging, elevated stuff. We want to know what you want us to talk about. In the comments please lease leave your:
1. Suggestion
2. Your name (if you wish, if you do put it and DON’T want the accompanying shout-out just let us know… or, you know, don’t leave your name) and how to pronounce it, please.
3. Where you are listening/tuning-in from (if you wish, but it helps us if you do).
